Brandon has performed with some of the top musicians in the world, including Grammy-award winning artists Delfeayo Marsalis and Kebbi Williams, as well as ex-Christian Scott saxophonist Braxton Cook. Brandon has worked with Canadian Blues legend Carolyn Fe, both as the drummer in her band and was co-producer on her 2018 release, Sugat Ko. He has also studied with acclaimed drummers Ari Hoenig, Dafnis Prieto and Dan Weiss.Brandon is the bandleader of Montreal-based jazz group B's Bees. The group can be seen at various venues around Montreal, and they have played at major jazz festivals and jazz clubs worldwide.
Nick is a drummer, arranger, bandleader, and composer who holds a Bachelor of Music (Honors) from the University of Windsor. He specializes in jazz drums – in Windsor he was known for his swinging touch – but since moving to Montreal in 2021, he has expanded his musical footprint to many genres. Nicholas has founded and led ensembles ranging from the modern Border City Collective (contemporary jazz) to Turntable Turnover (a project that reimagines classic rock songs as jazz tunes!). He also currently performs with singer Karen Myatt and heads his own Nick Baddeley Jazz Quartet. On top of that, Nick has played in orchestra pits for musical theatre and appears on multiple recordings, including contemporary percussion works and jazz vocal albums.
As a teacher, Nicholas is both methodical and motivational. He’s an active member of the Sabian Education Network and the D’Addario Education Collective, always learning new teaching strategies and sharing best practices with fellow educators. His lessons are highly personalized and he covers a comprehensive range of topics to build well-rounded drummers. With Nick you’ll work on timing and groove, explore a variety of styles, and even learn practical skills like proper drum setup and hardware maintenance. Technique and ergonomics are another focus – Nicholas ensures you develop good stick grip, stroke technique, and posture to play efficiently and avoid injury.
Nicholas’s students benefit from his organized approach and his genuine investment in their progress. He loves seeing them have “lightbulb moments,” whether it’s nailing a jazz brush pattern or cracking a tricky syncopation. With his blend of expertise and encouragement, Nicholas Baddeley empowers every student to become not just a better drummer, but a confident musician.
Mathew Higden is an accomplished drummer-educator who bridges the gap between formal jazz training and punk-rock energy. Armed with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies from Concordia University, Mat has a strong technical foundation – yet he’s equally at home thrashing out high-octane beats as the drummer of the punk rock group Reign The Sky.
With over seven years of teaching experience, Mathew has guided students of all ages and abilities, including those with special needs. He has even successfully coached aspiring drummers through college and university audition prep, underscoring his dedication to his students’ success. Mathew’s teaching style is often described as patient, personalized, and empowering. He meets students where they are – whether you’re a total beginner or prepping for music school – and crafts a lesson plan to reach your goals. Mat has a knack for breaking down complex concepts into digestible steps. One lesson might find him using analogies from everyday life to explain a tricky rhythm; the next, he could be jamming alongside you to your favorite song, making learning feel natural. Having worked with learners across the spectrum, Mathew is highly attuned to individual learning styles. He firmly believes that drumming teaches life skills like discipline, focus, and self-confidence. His own journey (from jazz academia to playing in punk clubs) shows students that there’s no one “right” path in music – you can be scholarly and loud, methodical and creative. Under Mat’s mentorship, many drummers have not only aced exams and auditions, but also rediscovered the joy in drumming.
Maxime Gosselin is a highly skilled drummer and long-time mentor who helped shape Studio Drum MTL’s community in the past years.
On stage, Maxime has an impressive resume: he’s toured and recorded with acclaimed artists like folk-rocker Lisa Leblanc and Acadian music icon Édith Butler, as well as indie favorites such as Jimmy Hunt and Peter Peter. (If you’ve ever tapped your foot to one of Lisa Leblanc’s catchy tunes, you’ve heard Maxime’s infectious groove driving the beat!) He’s also contributed his talents behind the scenes – not only drumming but also engineering and mixing for local band projects. Maxime’s extensive real-world experience shines through in his teaching. He has a relaxed, personable style and a treasure trove of practical tips for his students. Want to learn how to craft a drum part that serves the song? Maxime will draw from his studio sessions and show you.
Curious how to adapt your playing todifferent genres? Maxime has played everything from old-school hardcore punk to tender folk ballads, and he’ll guide you through the nuances of each style. In lessons, he strikes a balance between precisionand creativity. He’ll zero in on technique – ensuring you have good stick control, posture, and timing – butthen he’ll encourage you to let loose and inject your own personality into the music. Maxime is also a bigbeliever in versatility: he often challenges students to learn multiple genres, knowing it will make themstronger musicians. Above all, Maxime’s enthusiasm for drumming is contagious. He loves seeing hisstudents hit milestones, whether it’s mastering a tough fill or playing their first gig. With his mentorship, many of Maxime’s students have gone on to form bands, record albums, and carry forward the passion hehelped ignite.
