Over five weeks, you'll dive deep into the music, drummers, and grooves that helped shape funk and influence countless styles that followed, including R&B, soul, hip-hop, fusion, and modern pop. But this isn't a lecture series. You'll listen, analyze, learn, rehearse, and most importantly, play. Throughout the program, you'll work on real music alongside other drummers who want to improve their feel, timing, and musicianship. What You'll Learn * The history and evolution of funk drumming * Legendary drummers, recordings, and grooves * Pocket, timing, feel, and dynamic control * Groove construction and musical decision-making * How to lock in with a bass player and rhythm section * Practical applications through real songs and performances The Performance Experience Learning music is one thing. Performing it is another. The intensive concludes with a live performance at Le Billy in Verdun alongside a professional band featuring guitar and bass. You'll spend the program preparing for a real performance in front of a live audience. The performance will be video recorded, and each participant will receive a copy. No editing tricks. No second takes. Just you, your drums, and the music.
